Penn State finishes the 2016-17 season ranked 7th by the AP. The Nittany Lions were ranked 5th headed into the bowl season, but dropped two spots after their dramatic loss to USC in the Rose Bowl. USC surged all the way to 3rd in the final rankings.

Clemson finished ranked first, followed by Alabama, USC, Washington, Oklahoma and Ohio State. After Penn State, Florida State, Wisconsin and Michigan round out the top ten. The Nittany Lions are one of four Big Ten teams in the top-10, more than any other conference.
