After a 2016 season that ended in Rose Bowl heartbreak, an experienced, high-powered offense, and superb coaching staff have fans and oddsmakers alike high on the 2017 version of the Nittany Lions. The latter group made those thoughts known on Monday as the Las Vegas Superbook released their spring odds for the college football national championship.
Penn State is tied for the sixth betting choice, garnering 20-1 odds along with Auburn and Texas. Last year's Rose Bowl opponent, USC, is tied as the second choice on the board at 7-1, while national runner-up Alabama is the betting favorite at 7-2.
20-1 seems about right for this Nittany Lions squad who must replace a number of parts on defense. The biggest surprise in the early odds may be Michigan at 12-1, considering they lost nearly every starter on the offense and defense from at 2016 squad that finished third in the East division.
Should Penn State have better odds? Is there a dark horse somewhere else in the field? Let us know in the comments.
