Bring it, Union.
The NCAA Tournament bracket was announced this afternoon, just 12 hours after Liam Folkes went forehand-backhand-forehand and won the Big Ten Championship. Penn State is now headed to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Union Dutchmen Saturday at 4:30 p.m. This, of course, is the Nittany Lions' first-ever tournament berth -- Union's story is quite different, having won the National Championship in 2014 (with Shayne Gostisbehere leading the team).
The Dutchmen went 25-9-3 (16-4-2 ECAC) to claim the No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, while the Nittany Lions were 24-11-2 (10-9-1 B1G). Every sign points to this being a great matchup, with Penn State's second-ranked offense taking on Union's 26th-ranked defense, and Union's fourth-ranked offense taking on Penn State's 22nd-ranked defense.
Our initial scouting report is that, obviously, this is a tough offense. Two of the ten Hobey Baker nominees are Union forwards: Mike Vecchione and Spencer Foo.
Just making the tournament is a huge accomplishment for the Penn State team, but there's still work to do this season. Stay tuned all week as we get ready for the team's NCAA Tournament run.
