I think he's worthy of being a contender, but I don't think he will win. My reasoning is simply that I think there will be some games where teams try to take his game away, leaving Barkley to have a big game. Doesn't mean he's not good, just that he's not going to put up the crazy gaudy numbers because he's focused on just winning and taking what the defense gives him. That's perfectly fine, because I'm sure he'd rather win championships than a Heisman.

Based on that the following cancel out:

Colorado-Wisconsin, Iowa-Washignton St, Oregon-Michigan State, Indiana-ASU, Maryland-Arizona, Purdue-Idaho, Rutgers-Rutgers

That leaves:

#18 Stanford, #20 Utah, #57 Cal, #70 Oregon State, FCS vs. #2 Ohio State, #36 Temple, #49 Minnesota, #108 Kent State for comparison.

Then you have road loss at home against #11 USC vs. road loses to #5 Michigan and #25 Pitt.

How is Clemson a lock? A loss to VT kills their dreams and helps PSU more than any other potential upset.

If they lose to VT, Clemson (11-2):

0-0 vs. Top 10

Ÿ3-2 vs. Top 25 – W vs. Auburn, W vs. Louisville, W vs. Florida State, L vs. Pitt, L vs. Virginia Tech

5-2 vs. .500 or better

Again for everyone:

KenPom's preseason ratings are based on "a regression of the past nine seasons." It does not predict playing time or take into account transfers or incoming players (except 5-star recruits.)

On his site he says that if you think your favorite team is rated too low it is probably because you have highly rated transfers/recruits arriving.

You just made me look up the definition of byzantine since I only knew it as a reference to the empire.

Thanks for the recap.

Florida has a tough stretch with Georgia, Arkansas, a relaxed week with South Carolina, and then finishing with LSU and Florida State. I could see them getting knocked out of contention for that Orange Bowl spot.

A&M should win all of their games up to LSU and that one is a toss-up in my mind. I'll put them in the Sugar Bowl.

Tennessee should win out, although I could see Vanderbilt giving them a scare. However, I think they end up 10-3 with a loss in the SECCG. I think one game that could be a factor in deciding between us and Tennessee will actually be the game between Pitt-VT this weekend. If VT wins, it could become Tennessee's 'signature win'.

Auburn and LSU will likely get a 3rd loss to Alabama and finish 8-3.

I asked about this on PennStateHoops.com and they said this:

Something about it reminded me of the 2005 NW game - the 20+ tackles by a single player, a 4th down conversion throw, the QB willing the team to win. I'm hoping that means that the game against Maryland will be like the 2005 Minnesota game, but I'm not banking on it. Still, I think it shows we're going in the right direction in the long term view.
