The dog days of summer are upon us, but James Franklin and co. are busy wrangling lions. Today, three-star 2017 PA offensive tackle Desmond Holmes committed as the next piece of Matt Limegrover's line.
Penn State got on Holmes' trail relatively recently, offering him at the end of July after camping for the staff last month. He was clearly receptive to the idea of playing in Happy Valley, and after visiting State College this weekend he gave a verbal commitment.
The Holmes File
- Class: 2017
- Size: 6'5"/325lbs
- Pos: OT
- School: Cardinal O'Hara (Springfield, PA)
- Composite Rating: ★★★
- Composite Rank: 1057 (101)
In the end, most believed that it would come down to Penn State and Maryland for Holmes, who also held offers from usual suspects Syracuse, Pitt, and Temple.
Holmes is the 15th-ranked player in the state, and could be a riser with a strong senior season. He certainly has the size to play the position, and will add even more depth along the line. In fact, if you look at the scholarship grid, you'll see the Nittany Lions are now brimming with talent at a position that has plagued them in recent years.
Limegrover and Josh Gattis were the lead recruiters on Holmes, who becomes the 14th recruit to join the class of 2017. Welcome to Penn State, Desmond!
