Just over 24 hours after announcing his reinstatement, Maryland has fired head coach D.J. Durkin. Reports indicated that University President Wallace Loh and Director of Athletics Damon Evans made the decision earlier today and informed Durkin of the news.

It was just Tuesday afternoon that the school's Board of Regents recommended Durkin's return. Despite not having any authority to hire or fire coaches, the Board reportedly insisted Loh retain the embattled head coach, or risk losing his own job. Loh did not mention Durkin by name during Tuesday's awkward news conference.

Matt Canada will remain the team's interim coach going forward.
