Mississippi State has hired Mike Leach as their next head football coach.
Leach takes over for former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead, who was surprisingly fired after just two seasons in Starkville. Mike Leach has been a head coach for nearly twenty years, spending nine seasons at Texas Tech and seven at Washington State, going 139-90 throughout his career.
The 58-year-old is the architect of one of the best passing attacks in the nation, with his teams often ranking near the top of every major statistical passing category.
The Cougars went 6-7 during the 2019 season, losing seven of their final ten games. Graduate transfer quarterback Anthony Gordon led the nation in passing yards and attempts, making him the second straight Washington State quarterback to do so, following Gardner Minshew.
The Bulldogs open the 2020 season on September 5 against New Mexico.
