UMass has announced its plan to return to play a limited schedule and get back on the football field this fall.

An FBS Independent, UMass has yet to specify how many games they want to play but would attempt to start in late October. It's likely their schedule would be made up of Group of 5 schools looking to expand their schedule, or FBS teams who've non-conference games have been cancelled for one reason or another.

The Minutemen went 1-11 last season and have not had a winning season since making the move to FBS in 2012.

The Nittany Lions are scheduled to play the Minutemen in November of 2023, which would be the two school's first meeting since 2014.
