Malzahn began his collegiate career as Arkansas' offensive coordinator and bounced around southern programs before landing his first head coaching gig with Arkansas State in 2012. He stayed for just one season before being hired by Auburn, where was the offensive coordinator during their National Championship run in 2010.
Considered an offensive mastermind at the start of his tenure, Malzahn won the SEC and went to the BCS National Championship game in his first season on the Plains. He followed that up with three straight seasons of 8 wins or fewer, before churning out a 10-win season in 2017. The struggles resumed after that year, capped off by a 6-4 mark in 2020. Malzahn finishes his Auburn career with a 68-35 record.
Auburn is scheduled to visit Happy Valley in September of next season, so this is a hiring process Nittany Lions fans should keep an eye on. A national search is said to be already underway.
