Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been voted the Pepsi Rookie of the Year by the fans. The former Nittany Lion was selected second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and wasted no time showcasing his skills. In his rookie campaign, the Pro Bowler amassed 2,028 total yards, becoming just the third rookie to eclipse the 2,000 yard milestone. He finished the season with 1,307 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He added 721 yards and four more touchdowns in the receiving game.

Barkley set all kinds of both franchise and league records in his season including:

  • Most rookie rushing touchdowns in Giants history - 11
  • Most rushing yards by a rookie in Giants History - 1,307
  • Most touchdowns in a season by a Giants rookie - 15
  • Most 100-plus yards from scrimmage games by a rookie in NFL history - 12
  • Most scrimmage yards by a rookie in NFL history - 2,028 (Barkley also led the NFL in this category)
  • Most 50-plus yard touchdown - 5 (Tied with some guy named Randy Moss)
  • Most receptions by a rookie running back in NFL History - 91

Keep in mind that this is not the official NFL award. Both the offensive and defensive honors will be unveiled at the NFL Awards this upcoming Saturday. Barkley will look to beat out first overall pick, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, in that race.

Congratulations, Saquon!
