Many people likely thought that Sam Ficken's NFL career had been dealt its killing blow when the Jets signed former Cowboys kicker Brett Maher to a reserve/future contract in late-December. After all, Maher's career field goal percentage is just a hair under 75-percent and Ficken didn't exactly set the world on fire a year ago in New York.

Eat it, haters.

With Maher's release, Ficken has positioned himself to begin the 2020 season as the Jets' primary option for all kicking duties. Though it wasn't the smoothest season in 2019 for our beloved Ficken (70.4-percent on field goals, 3 missed extra points), it wasn't without its moments of awesomeness.

Penn State fans everywhere are hoping that a second season as the starter in New York will allow Ficken to find some stability and allow his talent to truly shine through. We're all rooting for you, Sam!
