Former Penn State cornerback Grant Haley and defensive tackle Anthony Zettel have been signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad, joining fellow Nittany Lion alums Blake Gillikin, Tommy Stevens, Juwan Johnson in the organization.
Haley was cut by the New York Giants at the end of training camp after a two-year stint in New York. He appearing in 25 games with 12 starts over that span. He'll join a New Orleans secondary that picked off Tom Brady twice in his first career start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Haley registered 139 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, and 28 passes defended in four seasons in Happy Valley. He also famously took a blocked field goal to the house to give Penn State the lead over Ohio State back in 2016.
Anthony Zettel signed an offseason deal with the Minnesota Vikings but was cut before training camp ended. A sixth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2016, Zettel has also spent time with the Browns, Bengals, and was a part of the San Francisco 49ers NFC Championship squad a season ago. His best season came in 2017 when he registered 38 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and forced one fumble.
He'll join an experienced defensive line and could quickly work up the depth chart thanks to his ability to both play inside and rush off the edge.
The big defensive lineman appeared in 40 games throughout his time in Happy Valley, registering 119 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 20 sacks, and an impressive four interceptions. He scored his only touchdown off a pick of JT Barrett in the 2014 Whiteout.
