*Update* - Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that Saquon Barkley has torn his ACL. Further testing will be done on Monday to confirm.
Giants fear RB Saquon Barkley suffered a torn ACL today, sources tell me and @JordanRaanan. One source said the torn ACL was certainly within the realm but there will be more tests Monday to make a full and complete determination.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 20, 2020
After a run on which he seemed to injure his right knee, Saquon Barkley had to be helped to the sideline during the New York Giants' game against the Chicago Bears. The former Nittany Lion would then be carted to the locker room.
Barkley seemed to tweak the knee on the play before, and while attempting to bounce a run outside soon after, stayed down after being tackled, ripped his helmet off, and started pounding on the turf in apparent pain. He was unable to leave the field under his own power and was helped to the sideline without putting any weight on his right side.
Barkley was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game and will undergo tests tomorrow to determine the severity of the injury.
The former All-American and No. 2 overall pick by New York in the 2018 NFL Draft was named a captain for the second consecutive season and was set to retake his place among the game's elite producers after being slowed by an ankle injury in 2019.
