Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh has learned his NFL destination. The Blairstown, New Jersey, native was selected No. 31 overall in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
In terms of pure athletic potential, there aren't many better prospects in the draft than Oweh, and the Ravens are banking on his rapid rise through the sport to continue at the next level. He didn't start playing competitive football until his junior year of high school but quickly developed into one of the best edge rushers in the Big Ten.
Oweh stands at 6-foot-5, 257 pounds, and lit up the Nittany Lions' Pro Day with a 4.36 40-yard dash and 39.5-inch vertical. It was that performance that ultimately cemented his spot in the first round.
Even though he failed to register a sack in 2020, he finished with 6.5 tackles for loss, 38 tackles (most by a PSU defensive lineman) and was named First Team All-Big Ten Conference honoree.
As our Matt Filipovits alluded to in his draft profile on Oweh, he might need a pseudo-redshirt season. The potential is there, though, for Oweh to have a long and productive career with the Ravens.
