Former Penn State cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields has been selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 221 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. TCF is the second member of Penn State's 2021 secondary selected, joining Jaquan Brisker who went to the Bears in the second round.

A four-star recruit in Penn State's 2017 class, TCF made an instant impact for the Nittany Lions, appearing in 12 games as a true freshman. The talented cornerback played injured often during his Nittany Lion career, resulting in him taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted during the COVID-19 pandemic to get more healthy reps on film.

TCF registered 138 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, picked off three passes, and defended 28 during his five years in Happy Valley. He earned All-Big Ten honors in 2019, 2020, and 2021 - making him one of just a few Nittany Lions defensive backs to earn All-Big Ten accolades three separate times.

The Maryland native began inching up draft boards after he ran a sub-4.40 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He followed that up with a strong Pro Day earlier this spring - cementing his status as a draftable NFL prospect.

He joins former Nittany Lions Robbie Gould and Kevin Givens on the 49ers roster.
