The Penn State lacrosse hype train has left the station.

Memorial Day weekend feels like forever ago, however, lacrosse fans can rejoice as the 2020 season is finally just around the corner. The Nittany Lions are among the national title favorites and sit atop the Big Ten preseason poll that was released on Monday.

Coach Jeff Tambroni’s squad also checked in at No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse preseason poll and No. 2 in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll, which were previously released.

With a veteran and star-studded team returning, this year has a bit of a now or never feel to it. Grant Ament is widely considered the best player in the country after leading the nation in points a year ago. Mac O’Keefe is without a doubt the best pure goal-scorer in the country. Both rewrote the Penn State record books on offense a year ago and helped the Nittany Lions be one of the most prolific offenses of all time as they lit scoreboards up week after week. Look for them to do the same this spring.

The star power doesn't stop there, though. Gerard Arceri is a returning All-American face-off specialist. On the back end, Colby Kneese is a four-year starter at goalie and has made strides every year to become one of the better goalies in the nation.

With those four seniors leading the way, it's no wonder this team is a national title favorite. Coming off of a crushing final four loss as the No. 1 seed a year ago, Penn State is going to want to finish the job this time around and win a national title in the Keystone State. They'll get the chance to do so in front of home-state fans with the final four once again being held in Philadelphia.

The Nittany Lions regular season begins on Feb. 1 where they will be heavy favorites against Lafayette in Happy Valley.
