Hoops earns second 2022 commitment

Penn State hoops has picked up its second commitment for the 2022 recruiting class.

Three-star small forward Evan Mahaffey out of Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions, joining guard Kanye Cleary in the 2022 class.

The 6-foot-5 wing also had offers from local programs Cincinnati and Xavier, as well as West Virginia, Kansas State, and others.

247Sports National Basketball Analyst Travis Barnham, who had put in a Crystal Ball projection for Mahaffey to Penn State earlier this week, broke down the type of player the Nittany Lions will be getting.

"Mahaffey is a long and lean wing who makes for effective slasher. At this stage, he’s a straight line driver who can make plays in transition and is also a willing passer, with the next step in his development coming in his jumpshot.

Defensively, he is versatile and can defend the perimeter very effective. He moves well laterally, is engaged and is length and athleticism are disruptive when contesting shots."
