The hype meter for this Penn State team is approaching dangerously high levels. The recent hot streak the team is on has the Lions flying up power rankings and projection boards everywhere. Though work remains to be done, starting on Saturday in the Bryce Jordan Center, this team is quickly becoming a trendy pick to make serious noise in the NCAA Tournament.
Just a few days ago, Scott Van Pelt made his feelings known about how the Nittany Lions are "a dangerous, confident, experienced team". They were also recently pegged as a 3-seed by Fox Sports in their latest bracket projections.
But Mark Titus of the Fox Sports podcast, Titus and Tate, took it a step further on Friday. Here's what he had to say.
"Tate, I gotta tell you. I am absolutely disgusted at the disrespect Penn State is getting. You're seeing all the talk about the Big Ten, it's Maryland, it's Illinois' resurgence, Michigan State is up there. We're talking about Ohio State and Michigan and are they good? Purdue's putting up a ton of points, Iowa's got Luka Garza.
When are people gonna talk about Penn State? They've won 7 in a row. They just beat the brakes off Purdue in Mackey Arena, one of the hardest places to win in the country. They are one of five teams, I believe, in the top-20 in KenPom in offense and defense. They have five true road wins.
Look at me, I can see it in your eyes. I'm saying Penn State's great, and you have that look like 'You're out of your mind.'
Tate, whether you believe it or not, Penn State is a final four contender."
The No. 13 Nittany Lions will face Northwestern this Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tip-off is set for 12:00 noon, ET. You can catch the game on BTN, and be sure to prepare for the game by reading our preview.
