Penn State's senior forward Mike Watkins has had to overcome far more than most college athletes to get to where he is today. From growing up in southwest Philadelphia, trying to find balance through the difficulties of bipolar disorder, and more, he is someone that the Nittany Lion family can truly be proud to call one of their own.
In this beautiful edition of The Journey from Big Ten Network, we get an in-depth look at how Watkins got to where he is today. From his upbringing in an unforgiving, dangerous environment, to how basketball became a surprisingly effective escape, it was a long, arduous journey.
He discusses how coming to Penn State completely changed his entire outlook on life and how he perceives those around him. We also get to hear from head coach Pat Chambers about the duty he felt and still feels to help Watkins be the best person he can be, and in his words, "save a life".
We highly suggest watching the full video for yourself, as it's a beautiful tribute to Mike and what he has achieved.
