Things may not have gone Penn State's way on the scoreboard on Senior Night in Happy Valley, but that doesn't and shouldn't take away from the celebration of one of the greatest senior classes the program has ever known.
We'll have plenty of tributes for Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins after the season comes to an end, but they more than deserve all of the love they have gotten this year and over the past four years from the Nittany Lion community.
By the time they are done with their Penn State careers, these two will have been at the forefront of an NIT Championship, as well as the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2011. They, along with Tony Carr, came to State College as sought-after, blue-chip prospects. They could have gone somewhere else with a brighter basketball history, a stronger tradition, and more talent. Instead, they chose to come to Happy Valley and get Pat Chambers and his team to the sport's brightest stage.
Whether this season truly is the beginning of a new era for Penn State basketball is yet to be seen. But one this is certain, and that is that this senior class will be remembered forever for their contributions to this university.
So thank you to Lamar Stevens, Mike Watkins, Curtis Jones Jr., Grant Hazle, and Stephen Beattie. Thank you for everything.
