On the heels of Micah Shrewsberry being named Penn State's 14th head basketball coach, a pair of veteran presences for the Nittany Lions have reportedly entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Forward John Harrar and guard Jamari Wheeler will apparently look to play their final season of eligibility elsewhere.

One of the best defenders in the country & shot 38% from deep. Fifth year senior.
Penn State senior F, John Harrar, has entered the transfer portal. He averaged 8.8 ppl and 8.8 rebs for the Nittany Lions this season. LaSalle, Maryland, Michigan St. Pitt, Miami, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Tennessee, N.C. State, Louisville, and Maryland have already shown interest.— THE MILLER REPORT (@Miller_Report) March 16, 2021
Both players committed to former head coach Pat Chambers and the Nittany Lions days apart in April of 2017. Wheeler had decommitted from Duquense just weeks before choosing Penn State over the likes of Seton Hall and South Florida, while Harrar passed on a football scholarship from Army to play hoops in Happy Valley.
Wheeler arrived in Happy Valley as a tenacious defender, ultimately being named to the Big Ten's All-Defense team as both a junior and senior. His offensive game improved over his four-year Penn State career as well, averaging nearly seven points per game this past season, and developing a solid three-point shot.
Harrar arrived as a raw post presence, but departs as one of the Big Ten's more solid forwards. He averaged nearly nine points and rebounds per game as a senior, and finishing his career with 500 points and 500 rebounds in the blue and white.
Given the response by several players following the resignation of Chambers just prior to the season, it is likely these will not be the final transfers out of the program
