Welcome to the Recruiting Roundup. Though we previously said that this would be a more regular post, at this point in the year, it doesn't make much sense to do this every week. But with some big changes having occurred, the roundup has returned. Enjoy.

Name Style High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Sean Clifford Pro St. Xavier (Oh.) 6'2/210 ★★★★ (0.9234) Committed to Penn State (7/13/15)

Penn State is done recruiting quarterbacks in the 2017 recruiting class.

Running Backs
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
D'Andre Swift St. Joseph's (Pa.) 5'9.5/214 ★★★★ (0.9817) Committed to Georgia (9/1/16) | Considering an Official Visit Penn State
Johnathan Lovett Cherokee (Nj.) 6'1/194 ★★★ (0.8447) De-Committed from Rutgers (11/14/16)

Dropped Out: Anthony McFarland Jr.

Though the class is still running back-less, it's becoming less and less likely that Swift or Lovett will enter the fray. If Swift wants to join the class, they'll find a way to take him, but it's very unlikely at this point.

Wide Receivers
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
K.J. Hamler IMG Academy (Fl.) 5'9/156 ★★★★ (0.8919) Committed to Penn State (12/9/16)
Cameron Sullivan-Brown St. Vincent Pallotti (Md.) 6'1/180 ★★★ (0.8640) Committed to Penn State (7/29/16)
Mac Hippenhammer R Nelson Snider (In.) 6'0/170 ★★★ (0.8624) Committed to Penn State (8/13/16)
Mark Webb Archbishop Wood (Pa.) 6'2/195 ★★★★ (0.9369) Committed to Georgia (9/16/16) | Will likely officially visit Penn State in January
Henry Ruggs III Robert E. Lee (Al.) 6'0/175 ★★★★ (0.9319) Top-5: Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State
Jaylen Harris Cleveland Heights (Oh.) 6'5/210 ★★★★ (0.9257) Top-5: Penn State, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan State, Tennessee | Officially Visited PSU 10/22
Danny Davis Springfield (Oh.) 6'3/178 ★★★★ (0.9083) Crystal Ball Leader: Kentucky

It's becoming tough to see space for another receiver in Penn State's 2017 recruiting class, but should Mark Webb decide he wants a spot sometime in January, they'll do what they can to find a space for him.

Tight Ends

Penn State won't be taking a tight end in the 2017 recruiting class.

Offensive Line
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
C.J. Thorpe Central Catholic (Pa.) 6'3/318 ★★★★ (0.9185) Committed to Penn State (4/16/16)
Michael Miranda Stow-Munroe Falls (Oh.) 6'4/300 ★★★ (0.8696) Committed to Penn State (4/21/16)
Robert Martin St. Joseph Regional (Nj.) 6'5/265 ★★★ (0.8538) Committed to Penn State (4/16/16)
Desmond Holmes Cardinal O'Hara (Pa.) 6'5/325 ★★★ (0.8488) Committed to Penn State (8/7/16)

Penn State is done recruiting offensive linemen in the 2017 recruiting class.

Defensive Tackles
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Fred Hansard Hun School (Nj.) 6'3/310 ★★★★ (0.9179) Committed to Penn State (11/27/16)
Elijah Conliffe Hampton (Va.) 6'4/305 ★★★★ (0.8938) Top-12: PSU, Bama, UT, MSU, UMD, VT, USC, Ole Miss, WVU, NC St, Miami, Oklahoma
Corey Bolds Paramus Catholic (Nj.) 6'3/276 ★★★ (0.8696) Top-6: Penn State, Cal, Clemson, Georgia, Pitt, Rutgers

Dropped Out: Dalyn Wade-Perry

If Penn State adds another player in the 2017 class, defensive tackle is one of the few positions where that addition could come. Elijah Conliffe would be the big prize, but he's still likely heading to Tuscaloosa. Wade-Perry eliminated Penn State with the announcement of his top-three.

Defensive Ends
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Yetur Matos Chancellor (Va.) 6'5/235 ★★★★ (0.9184) Committed to Penn State (2/27/16)
Damion Barber Harrisburg (Pa.) 6'3/244 ★★★★ (0.8955) Committed to Penn State (2/27/16)
Joshua Kaindoh IMG Academy (Fl.) 6'6/240 ★★★★★ (0.9883) Top-4: Penn State, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama | Commitment Date: 12/23/16

Kaindoh has bumped up the announcement date for his verbal commitment to this Friday (12/23/16). However, things still aren't looking great for Penn State in terms of their chances to add the five-star edge rusher.

Inside Linebackers
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Dylan Rivers Sherando (Va.) 6'2/230 ★★★★ (0.9020) Committed to Penn State (11/21/15)

Dropped Out: Jordan Anthony

The only recruiting battle left for Penn State as far as inside linebackers go is keeping Dylan Rivers in the fold. The four-star Virginia-native is taking a hard look at Virginia Tech with the recruiting cycle coming to a close. Expect to see and hear a lot about both Penn State and the Hokies focusing on Rivers throughout January.

Outside Linebackers
Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Brelin Faison-Walden Grimsley (Nc.) 6'1/220 ★★★ (0.8721) Committed to Penn State (7/20/16)
Brailyn Franklin Battlefield (Va.) 6'2/200 ★★★ (0.8487) Committed to Penn State (8/2/16)
Nathan Proctor Henry E. Lackey (Md.) 6'2/205 ★★★★ (0.9343) Officially Visiting Penn State (1/20/17)

Nathan Proctor is the only remaining target for Penn State, and things still look good for the Nittany Lions there. His official visit to Penn State is scheduled for January 20.

Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Lamont Wade Clairton (Pa.) 5'9/190 ★★★★ (0.9735) Committed to Penn State (12/17/16)
Donovan Johnson Cass Technical (Mi.) 5'10/176 ★★★★ (0.8924) Committed to Penn State (12/13/16)
D.J. Brown Creekside (Ga.) 5'11/175 ★★★ (0.8446) Committed to Penn State (4/25/16)

Penn State is done recruiting cornerbacks in the 2017 recruiting class (probably).

Name High School Ht./Wt. Rating Status
Jonathan Sutherland Episcopal (Va.) 6'0/195 ★★★★ (0.8989) Committed to Penn State (7/24/16)
Tariq Castro-Fields Riverdale Baptist School (Md.) 6'1/173 ★★★★ (0.8928) Crystal Ball Leaders: Maryland, Penn State, Alabama

Whether Casto-Fields projects as a corner or a safety depends on who you ask, but if Penn State can find space for him (or if they decide Lamont Wade really is a safety) then they could still look at him as a corner.

Roar Lions Roar Big Board

This Big Board will serve as a top-5 countdown of the recruits that we here at Roar Lions Roar believe are currently the highest priority for Penn State.

  1. Joshua Kaindoh (DE)
  2. Nathan Proctor (OLB)
  3. Elijah Conliffe (DT)
  4. Mark Webb (WR)
  5. D'Andre Swift (RB)

As always, feel free to leave any questions you may have, as well as suggestions for this post in the future. Thanks.
