Despite a late scare thanks to some official visits to Michigan, Georgia and Virginia Tech, Brelin Faison-Walden officially became a Nittany Lion this past January. The three-star prospect may not have a set position just yet, but he figures to be a terror once he finds his home on the field.

Scouting Report

As mentioned above, it's not entirely clear whether Faison-Walden profiles best as a safety or linebacker at the next level. Chances are, he'll stick in the middle of the defense as an outside linebacker, but it's a little too early to say definitively.

What we do know, however, is that once he gets on the field, he will be difficult to deal with. His instincts and speed allow him to cover a lot of ground and chase down ball carriers all over the field. He could be a great eventual successor to Manny Bowen down the line.

Moving Forward

Faison-Walden seems like a yellow light-type player right now. He certainly has the ability to survive if thrown on the field today, but the staff may want to figure out his best long-term fit before simply placing him somewhere on the defense.

However, with the linebacker depth chart currently hurting, the early enrollee may be forced into action, even if only as a special teamer at first. Expect the staff to struggle with deciding whether or not to let Faison-Walden redshirt as a freshman or not.
