Welcome to National Signing Day 2017 here at Roar Lions Roar. Make sure to check out all of our other Signing Day coverage today and in the coming days, and make sure to check out each profile of the newest Nittany Lions as they come in. (All photos you see below are courtesy of 247Sports)

Brailyn Franklin did everything for Battlefield (Va.) High School: Rush the passer at defensive tackle, return kicks, run the wildcat, force fumbles, split out wide and built a stadium. Alright, he didn't build a stadium. But he did build a solid relationship with Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry, and that was key in leading Franklin north to Happy Valley.

Scouting Report

Franklin is incredibly fluid, with great body control that jumps out on tape. You can't be as versatile as Franklin was in high school without being a top-notch athlete. How that athleticism translates to college football, particularly at the linebacker position, is the key consideration.

Does the three-star prospect have a clear positional match? Can he find a home at Linebacker U? Does he eventually shift to safety? Franklin's athleticism and penchant for finding bodies and hitting them certainly won't hurt.

Moving Forward

Injuries and lack of overall depth at the linebacker position caught up to the Nittany Lions in 2016, and Franklin is an enticing piece to fill in. Penn State may look to him for an impact on special teams. If so, he might be a "yellow" at this point, but is likely headed toward a redshirt. Fellow linebacker classmate and early enrollee Brelin Faison-Walden figures to see any time ahead of Franklin on defense at this point.
