Welcome to National Signing Day 2017 here at Roar Lions Roar. Make sure to check out all of our other Signing Day coverage today and in the coming days, and make sure to check out each profile of the newest Nittany Lions as they come in. (All photos you see below are courtesy of 247Sports)

It seems as though James Franklin learned his lesson from last year, after losing commits close to national signing day. Just a little over a week before National Signing Day, Dylan Rivers decommitted, leaving Penn State's linebacker class in doubt yet again. However, this year there was a contingency plan in place, as Brooks received his offer on the same day as Rivers' flip. Penn State had been recruiting him throughout the process, but only intended to take one linebacker in the class, hence the late offer. A visit was set up, and Brooks committed after returning home on Monday.

Scouting Report

The scouting report on Brooks says that he is good at diagnosing plays and isn't afraid of contact. As you can see from the tape below, he has an impressive burst in the box and when contact is made, the ball carrier goes backward. If there is an area for improvement it is that he, like most high school linebackers, he has room to improve in coverage.

Nabbing an inside linebacker was an absolute necessity for this class with two seniors at MLB going in to 2017. He will likely slide in behind Jason Cabinda and Brandon Smith on the depth chart.

Moving Forward

Yellow light.

Ideally Brooks will redshirt before competing for a spot at middle linebacker. However, as we have seen recently, injuries can happen and in a hurry. He has the skill to be thrown in there early, but hopefully that won't have to happen and he can spend the year adjusting his body and mind to the speed and physicality of the college game.
