It has been nearly a year since Justin Shorter committed to Penn State. At the time, he was ranked No. 69 overall and No. 8 nationally among receivers. After a strong summer on the camp circuit, culminating with one of the top performances at The Opening Finals, he is now a five-star prospect in the 247Sports Rankings, coming in as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 7 player overall.
Following the decommitments of quarterback Justin Fields (who is now the nation's top prospect) and defensive end Micah Parsons (who rose to No. 4 overall), Shorter becomes the only five-star prospect currently in the class. Ricky Slade had a fifth star at the time of his commitment, but has slipped out of that range to become the nation's 80th overall player by 247Sports' rankings, despite strong camps this summer.
Penn State's class currently ranks No. 4 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings, but that number could be changing over the next few weeks. Several prospects have indicated they would like to make decisions before the summer wraps up. Additionally, the Nittany Lions' marquee summer recruiting event, the Lasch Bash, is scheduled for this Saturday.
