Well, that one did not last very long. Just eight days after announcing his verbal commitment to Penn State, three-star offensive line prospect Zachary Franks (Baltimore, MD) has flipped to Pat Fitzgerald and the Northwestern Wildcats.
When Franks committed on Aug. 2, he was fresh off of a visit to Happy Valley for the 2018 Lasch Bash, his second trip to State College is just over a month. He had earned his Penn State offer in late-June after camping for James Franklin, Matt Limegrover, and the rest of the coaching staff.
At the time of his commitment, he had over 30 offers. In addition to the Penn State and Northwestern, Rutgers, Arizona, Cal, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Pitt, and Syracuse were just some of the schools he was considering. His top-four consisted of the Nittany Lions, Wildcats, Scarlet Knights, and Blue Devils.
With Franks departure, the 2019 class now stands at 15 members, and slides back to 14th nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Franklin and the staff will be looking for at least one, and possibly two additional linemen to round out their offensive line class.
