Marquis Wilson's commitment was part of a torrid month of recruiting for James Franklin's staff. It seemed clear at the time that the Nittany Lions were facing a bit of a numbers crunch for recruits in the defensive secondary. With corner Keaton Ellis already part of the class and as many as six blue-chippers vying for four spots, the lanky Connecticut prospect took the plunge on May 20. Wilson's pledge was sandwiched between safety Jaquan Brisker on May 18 and state-mate safety Tyler Rudolph on May 21.

A dynamic junior season and solid performances at big-time camps vaulted cornerback Wilson to four-star status heading into his final high school season. Wilson pledged to Franklin and Penn State a month after the 2018 Blue/White Game and is part of the most robust position group in the 2019 class.
Wilson was a two-way star in high school but was targeted as a defensive back by the Nittany Lions. He profiles as a corner and has the athleticism to back that up. He posted a 4.09 shuttle and 36" vertical at a 2018 Opening Regional.
Things are a bit crowded at cornerback for Penn State, and while Wilson has excellent coverage and ball skills, he needs to add weight and strength to compete with Big Ten receivers. That said, he's enrolling early, and the early acclimation has shown to pay dividends for true freshmen seeking playing time under the new redshirt rule.
