With both National Signing Day just days away, and the brief dead period that precedes it going into place Monday, Penn State has one last chance to impress 2019 prospects, and also kickstart the 2020 cycle. Suffice to say there are some pretty big names heading to Happy Valley this weekend. These are all the players we've been able to confirm will be in town:
- Coziah Izzard (DE)
- Curtis Jacobs (OLB)
- KeAndre Lambert (WR)
- Aaron Lewis (DE)
- Josh Moten (CB)
- Isaiah Raikes (DT)
- Malakai Anthony (QB)
The priority here has to be Nick Cross. Even after Lamont Wade's decision to remain with Penn State, adding a player of Cross' caliber would be huge. If they can get the four-star prospect to flip, it will be a massive win. Outside of him, this weekend will be a great opportunity to leave a good impression on a handful of key 2020 targets. Here's hoping we get a commitment or two out of this weekend.
Four-star running back Blake Corum picked up a Penn State offer earlier this week. The Maryland native is the 19-ranked back in the class of 2020.
The Nittany Lions have extended an offer to 2020 wide receiver Justin Robinson. Already standing at 6'4/200, the three-star Georgia native will be a name to keep an eye on over the next few months.
Penn State has extended an offer to one of the biggest players in the class of 2020, 6'8, 220-pound offensive tackle Andrew Gentry. A four-star prospect, Gentry is the top player in the state of Colorado and the No. 15 offensive tackle in his class.
Cornerback Jalen Harrell closed out a busy month by picking up a Penn State offer. The 2020 prospect has picked up offers from Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and his hometown Miami Hurricanes since the start of the new year.
All praise to the most high! Truly blessed to have received an offer from Pennsylvania State University #WEARE20 #NittanyLions@coachseider @coachjfranklin @SWiltfong247 @Andrew_Ivins @GridironStuds @SabbathJoseph pic.twitter.com/iV66PWCiy0— Jalen Harrell (@jayworld07) January 30, 2019
With the 2019 class nearly set, the staff has already started ramping up recruitment for the class of 2021, offering wide receiver Jayden Ballard. 247Sports has the Ohio native as the 12th ranked receiver and 65th best player overall.
Kimber puts Lions in his top 10
Three-star corner Jalen Kimber has put the Nittany Lions in his top 10 schools. The Texas native picked up his Penn State offer in early September. James Franklin and Co. will have to beat out conference rivals Michigan and Purdue, as well as hometown schools Texas and Texas A&M to earn his services.
Lions add a PWO Linebacker
North East, Pennsylvania native Alex Furmanek announced on Twitter that he will join the Penn State football program as a preferred walk-on. Listed at 6'3/225, Furmanek wore a lot of different hats during his high school career but is expected to play linebacker in college.
Staff supporting doug nester
The staff really, really, really wants Doug Nester. With just a few days to go before signing day, they had to find a way to stand out somehow, right? Well, they may have found the perfect way to do that. Gerard Parker, Ja'Juan Seider, Ricky Rahne, and Matt Limegrover all donned Nester's number 74 at his high school basketball game on Thursday night. My main two thoughts are "good God Parker is jacked" and "Matt Limegrover could not possibly look more like a dad."
