Penn State 2021 Commit Dont'e Thornton

Given Franklin's feelings toward committed recruits taking visits to other schools, this one is a bit of a surprise considering how much time is left until pen is put to paper. Regardless, Penn State has secured its first 2021 commitment from WR Dont'e Thornton (Baltimore).

Thornton has six D1 offers, including Ohio State, Maryland, and Michigan. His Penn State offer came back in June of 2018 after attending a camp.

The Thornton File

  • Class: 2021
  • Size: 6-4/180
  • Pos: WR
  • School: Mount Saint Joseph (Baltimore, MD)
  • Composite Rating: N/A
  • Composite Rank: N/A

As early as this commitment comes, it's been pretty clear this one was Penn State's to lose. His only reported other visit was a camp to Virginia. Otherwise, he's been to Penn State five times.

With Tyler Bowen and Sean Spencer leading the charge in his recruitment, Thornton clearly felt at home. It's rare that an eventual top 10-20 player at his position is willing to shut things down this early. Kudos to Franklin & Co. for identifying this talent early and locking things down.

Thornton makes it commit No. 1 for the 2021 but he makes it a tremendous start for the class. There aren't many players' rankings for 2021 as of yet so this doesn't technically affect the Lions' standing in the team rankings.
