In what may be the biggest recruiting miss of the James Franklin era, five-star receiver and Pennsylvania native Julian Fleming has announced his commitment to Ohio State, over the Nittany Lions.

Fleming seemed destined to be a Nittany Lion up until the past few months. He was on campus nearly every weekend, he seemed to have a good relationship with the staff, and State College was less than 100 miles from his hometown.
Led by receivers coach Brian Hartline, the Buckeyes came on very strong in the past few months, making up for the lost ground Penn State created when they brought in their third new receivers coach in three years. The potent OSU offense under Ryan Day, and former five-star QB (and PSU commit) Justin FIelds transferring to Columbus surely played a role as well.
The top player in Pensylvania and No. 6 overall prospect in the 2020 class, Fleming's commitment marks the first time the Nittany Lions have lost an elite in-state prospect to another Big Ten school of the Franklin era. Had the Nittany Lions been able to reel him in, they would have scored the nation's top receiver prospect in two of the past three classes.
