The negative news keeps coming for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, Aaryn "AJ" Parks, a four-star OL from Maryland, announced he has reopened his recruitment. His time at a Penn State pledge was a brief one, lasting just six weeks.
Parks (ranked 322nd nationally) is the second OL prospect to drop the Lions in recent days following four-star Grant Toutant's flip to Ohio State on Sunday. Both decommitments come on the heels of perhaps Franklin's biggest recruiting miss of his Penn State tenure when PA five-star WR Julian Fleming committed to the Buckeyes on May 31.
Taken individually over the course of an entire recruiting cycle, none of these black marks would move the needle too much. Obviously missing on Fleming was the biggest of the problems, but taken together there seems to be some significant issues brewing in Happy Valley. Parks' exit drops the Nittany Lions to 18th in the 247Sports team rankings.
