Just about 24 hours after doubling the size of the 2021 recruiting class to two, the Nittany Lions are back down to just a single commit. Four-star WR Dont'e Thornton has decommitted from Penn State.
Thornton issued his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions nearly six months ago, but has shown signs of wavering in recent months. He popped up West Virginia in early May, and made a visit to Tennessee in June. Just last weekend, instead of heading north for the Lasch Bash, Thornton made the trek across the country to Oregon for an unofficial visit. He did visit Happy Valley for the Blue-White Game in April, and again in early June.
A native of Baltimore, Thornton has established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the 2021 class. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the fourth best receiver, and 38th best prospect overall among high school juniors.
According to his announcement, Thornton intends to keep Penn State among his favorites while he reevaluates his recruitment. With nearly 17 months before he can sign with any program, this is likely far from over.
