With just weeks remaining before the majority of the 2020 recruiting class signs Letters of Intent with college programs, the Nittany Lions are down one defensive back. Alexandria, VA safety Elijah Gaines tweeted has de-committed from Penn State.

Gaines, a three-star prospect, committed to Penn State in September, just two weeks after officially visiting Happy Valley for the Pitt game. At the time, it appeared to be a two-team race between the Lions and North Carolina.
Gaines was set to be the third safety in the 2020 class, alongside four-star Enzo Jennings and three-star JuCo transfer Ji'Ayir Brown. Penn State also continues to pursue additional defensive backs for this class.
With Gaines' de-commitment, Penn State's class is down to 27 total commits, and remain the No. 15-ranked in the country and No. 3 in the Big Ten.
