Penn State is well-positioned to land one of the country's best groups of offensive linemen in the 2021 recruiting class. They are targeting several highly-ranked players, including Texas-product Matthew Wykoff. The 6'5 offensive tackle included the Nittany Lions among his top-seven schools, which he announced via Twitter on Thursday.
Wykoff named the Lions were the only school in the northeast to make the cut, which is fairly significant, as Arizona State, Texas, USC, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech joined them on the list.
Wykoff just picked up his Penn State offer in late February, which speaks volumes to the reputation of new offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, as well as his interest in the school. There is not yet any work on a scheduled visit for the Texas standout.
Bowers Visits Happy Valley
Penn State has stayed busy in terms of recruiting tight ends since the de-commitment of Nick Elksnis, and that continued on Thursday as the country's No. 3 tight end took in the sights and sounds of Happy Valley. Brock Bowers (Napa, CA) got his first taste of State College after visiting Notre Dame on Wednesday and before heading to Michigan on Friday.
Bowers is the No. 101 ranked player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 3 tight end. He's ranked even higher on the 247Sporst ratings, coming in at No. 52 overall.
In an interview with 247Sports, Bowers is quoted as saying the following about Penn State:
They use their tight ends a ton and I like their coaching staff and everything, and they win games out there. I talk to Coach (Tyler) Bowen mostly. He likes to hunt and I like to hunt too and I like him a lot as a person too.
Here's to hoping Bowers and Bowen hit it off in person while munching on some fresh-caught venison.
Blessed to receive an offer from Penn State!
