Penn State has recruited running backs and linebackers as well as anyone in the country under James Franklin, but his staff's work with the tight end position may be the most impressive of all. The success at that spot now continues with 2022 four-star tight end Holden Staes joining the fold.
The Nittany Lions got in on Staes' recruitment this past April, presenting him with a scholarship offer as part of what ended up being a 14-offer month for the Georgia product.
The Staes File
- Class: 2022
- Size: 6-4/220 lbs.
- Pos: TE
- School: Westminster School (Atlanta, GA)
- Composite Rating: ★★★★ (.9341)
- Composite Rank: No. 172 overall (No. 4 TE)
Along with the Nittany Lions, Staes received offers from some of country's top programs over the past few months, including Michigan, South Carolina, Georgia, Oregon, USC, Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU, among others.
With the COVID pandemic bringing everything to a grinding halt in the recruiting world in March, Staes' visit process came to an end before it could really get going. He was only able to make visits to Michigan and Oklahoma before things started shutting down and hasn't taken any visits since.
Staes becomes the fourth member of Penn State's 2022 class, bringing it to No. 3 in the nation. With as stacked as Penn State's tight end room has become, it's tough to imagine just about any recruit coming in and getting playing time right off the bat. However, considering that it will still be two years before Staes suits up in the blue and white, it's tough to predict at this point what his freshman season could look like.
