While Penn State didn't have much success in Pennsylvania in this cycle, the coaches did a great job finding talent in Michigan. In Jamari Buddin, they have another highly-athletic linebacker that they can mold into a star.

Penn State has recruited the linebacker position extremely well under James Franklin, bringing in loads of talent each year. Buddin is the latest in the line of blue-chip linebackers to come to Happy Valley (he is a four-star in the 247Sports rankings). Though not quite as polished as some of the previous linebacker signees, Buddin is a fantastic athlete who has the potential to be a big-time playmaker for the Nittany Lions.
He plays with great speed and hits very hard, two qualities that are very endearing to fans. He does still have work to do with respect to becoming a complete player, however, and he's someone who will need some time in the weight room before he's ready to make an impact on the field.
Buddin is most likely in line for a redshirt as a freshman. He'll certainly see the field during his four-game audition as a special teamer, however, and with the number of linebackers on the roster, he'll have a shot to burn his redshirt if his play there warrants it. As far as his defensive role, he is most likely slated to play in an outside linebacker role. He won't be rushed into anything thanks to the talent in front of him, but the staff isn't afraid to get young defenders time if they earn it.
