Few offensive linemen come into college ready to genuinely compete as a true freshman. Landon Tengwall, the highest-rated player in Penn State's 2021 recruiting class, is a rare breed.

Landon Tengwall
Position: Offensive Tackle

High School: Good Counsel (Olney, MD)
247Composite Rank: ★★★★(0.9748)
Positional Rank: No. 50 Overall, No. 7 Offensive Tackle, No. 1 in Maryland
Commitment Date: March 26, 2020

RLR's Take

Landon Tengwall is ready to hit the college level and make his mark. The Maryland native is built like a tank, carries his weight incredibly well, and plays with both a nastiness and confidence necessary to excel in the trenches. He provides All-American potential at guard and All-Big Ten potential at tackle.

He can drive and finish blocks with the best of them. He gets a good pad level for someone his size and has a tremendous initial punch. If Penn State plans to play him at tackle, he'll need to improve his drop step, hand placement, and learn how to play with more finesse.

Moving Forward

As an early enrollee, Tengwall has a window to come in and push for a starting guard spot. The 2021 picture would be a bit more unclear if Penn State hadn't recently found their tackle of the future but Caden Wallace's emergence has the line is in a great place. Unless Rasheed Walker leaves for the NFL, Tengwall will be able to work exclusively at guard and work to replace Will Fries at his spot.

In the long term, assuming Penn State is able to let Tengwall focus at his best suited position, he'll be able to establish himself as one of the Big Ten's best interior offensive linemen over his 3-4 years as a starter. He has the potential to work his way into the higher rounds of the NFL Draft.
