Landon Tengwall's verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions last month could be a sign of things to come. Three key Penn State targets are set to announce their commitments by the end of this week. Four-star safety Jaylen Reed will make a commitment on Thursday and Kalen King following suit on Friday. King's twin brother, Kobe hasn't announced his plans, but an announcement with his brother seems probable too.

The Detroit trio would be a huge boost to Penn State's 2021 class. Reed originally released plans to commit on May 10, but opted to move up his date to this month. Moving up his commitment so closely to the Kings' date would seem to be a fair sign they set it up this way with the intent of committing to the same school and creating momentum. Since the announcement of their respective dates, there has been a huge influx of 247 Crystal Ball predictions for the trio to all end up at Penn State. Roar Lions Roar's Matt de Bear has logged picks for all three to commit to the Nittany Lions.
Reed is second on the Penn State target safety board behind only top-100 prospect Derrick Davis Jr. Landing Reed would allow the Lions' coaching staff to put all of their remaining safety recruiting efforts onto Davis. They also complement each other tremendously, so Reed would be a great start to a dream safety haul for the 2021 class.
As for the King twins, Kalen, a four-star cornerback, and Kobe, a three-star linebacker, both would prove great talents for the program. Kalen has the higher ceiling between the two, and great corners are tough to come by. Kobe is as true of a Mike linebacker prospect as there is in this class. That's not a negative in the slightest. Every defense needs a tough, strong and violent backer in the middle to take on all blocks and stuff running backs before they can get a head of steam. It's not flashy but it's invaluable.
