Penn State's top-rated recruit in the 2021 class, offensive lineman Landon Tengwall, has announced that he will now graduate early from Good Counsel and enroll early to get his collegiate career started this winter.
The note reads as follows:
"I would like to announce that I will be graduating early from Good Counsel and attending Penn State for the spring semester. I would like to thank the teachers, administration and coaches at Good Counsel for helping me complete my senior requirements and for all the help they have provided me throughout my time at Good Counsel. Let's get it!"
Though listed as an offensive tackle by 247Sports, Tengwall could find a home at either tackle or guard at Penn State, with many projecting the interior to be his ideal landing spot. By enrolling early, he will give himself a great shot at earning some early playing time next fall.
The current starter at right guard, Will Fries, is moving on after the season (hopefully to the NFL). The previous starter CJ Thorpe has seemed to fall out of favor with the coaching staff after struggling to find success in the new zone-blocking scheme. He will surely have a good chance to win back his job ahead of the 2021 season, but the spot will certainly be up for grabs. With the benefit of the extra time on campus, and in the weight room, Tengwall should provide Thorpe with stiff competition and could end up a big part of the rotation up front even without winning the job outright. With interior linemen, Juice Scruggs and Mike Miranda also set to compete for the center job next season, Tengwall could also enter the left guard competition.
Simply put, the Maryland native is extremely talented and should be a factor right from the jump, and enrolling early only increases his chances of doing so.
Other members of the 2021 class expected to enroll early include cornerback Kalen King, linebacker Kobe King, quarterback Christian Veilleux, cornerback Jeffrey Davis Jr., and offensive guard Nate Bruce.
