Four-star Atlanta-area tight end Holden Staes announced he has decommitted from Penn State. Staes' decision to reopen his recruitment comes on the heels of highly regarded tight end coach Tyler Bowen taking a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Staes committed back in early August 2020 following a visit to campus, and has since been offered by Texas and Ole Miss. His other previous offers include Michigan, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech
Penn State had accumulated a prolific tight end room under Bowen, with Pat Freiermuth, Brenton Strange, and Theo Johnson. With Staes off the board, Milwaukee four-star Jerry Cross is the lone tight end commit in the Nittany Lions 2022 class.
Penn State's 2022 class now ranks fifth in the nation in the 247Sports Team Composite with seven commits.
