With just three days left in July, and before the fall camp dead period, James Franklin and Co. continue to be red-hot on the recruiting trail. Four-star safety Cristian Driver is the latest to commit to the Nittany Lions, the 11th to do so this month.
The son of Green Bay Packers great Donald Driver, Cristian Driver has known James Franklin for nearly his entire life. Franklin was the elder Driver's position coach for a season in Green Bay, and the pair have maintained a close friendship over the past 15 years.

The Nittany Lions were one of the first schools to offer Driver a scholarship, doing so all the way back in mid-November of 2018. A flurry of other top programs followed suit, including Ohio State, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and LSU. He visited Penn State in June, the only official visit he took once recruiting opened back up that month. He was in Madison to visit the Badgers unofficially in early-June, but saw his official visit later that month canceled . Driver is the first Texas prospect the Nittany Lions have landed since Parker Washington in 2020.
Driver plays both receiver and safety right now, but he projects at the latter at the next level. He's a strong tackler with great closing speed and reads offenses very well for a high schooler. His background as a receiver gives him some great ball skills, something Penn State desperately needs out of safeties going forward.
Driver is commit No. 23 for Penn State and their 2022 recruiting class remains No. 2 nationally.
