Fireworks continue for James Franklin on the recruiting trail. The Nittany Lions have landed a commitment from arguably their top defensive tackle target, New York's Kaleb Artis.

The Artis File

  • Class: 2022
  • Size: 6-4/290 lbs.
  • Pos: DL
  • School: St Francis Preparatory School (Fresh Meadows, NY)
  • Composite Rating: ★★★
  • Composite Rank: No. 430 overall (No. 63 DL)

The No. 2 player in the Big Apple, he held offers from Boston College, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida State, and Texas A&M. Artis camped for Penn State and took an unofficial visit to Rutgers pre-pandemic, before the recruiting world went into a pause. Once visits were allowed again this June, he made his way to Auburn, Virginia, and Penn State on official visits.

At 6'4/290, he's got some bulking up to do, but his frame can carry a lot of weight. Penn State has a ton of young talent at defensive tackle, so Dwight Galt and Co. can take their time getting Artis ready to take on the rigors of the Big Ten.

Artis is commitment No. 17 for Penn State in the 2022 class and their fourth since Friday. Penn State's class now has six commits on the defensive side of the ball, 10 on the offense, and one specialist. The Nittany Lions now have the third-ranked recruiting class in the 2022 cycle.
