Penn State went down into Florida to grab a defensive commitment. Defensive tackle Zane Durant is the latest addition to the class.
James Franklin offered Durant this past January but wasn't able to get him on campus until last month. The Miami Hurricanes held 100% of the 247Sports Crystal Ball picks until very recently, making this one of the biggest recruiting upsets James Franklin has engineered so far this cycle. Durant also held other offers from Tennessee, Auburn, Indiana, USC, Ole Miss, Miami, and Louisville.
The Durant File
- Class: 2022
- Size: 6-1/251 lbs.
- Pos: DL
- School: Lake Nona (Orlando, FL)
- Composite Rating: ★★★★ (.8934)
- Composite Rank: No. 338 overall (No. 46 DL)
His only pre-dead period visit was a Junior Day to Florida State but things really got off to the races last month. Since the beginning of June, Durant has visited Miami, Tennessee, UCF, Indiana, and Penn State totaling eight visits with three of those being officials.
After not landing a Sunshine State prospect in the '21 cycle, winning this battle marks a return to form for Ja'Juan Seider. Seider is at his best when he can get in front of kids, whether that be in their home states or in Happy Valley.
At 6'1, he's not the biggest interior defensive linemen but he's quick on his feet and can play on the outside in a pinch, something James Franklin has done with athletic defensive tackles in the past.
Durant is commitment No. 15 for Penn State in the '22 class, solidifying the group at No. 7 in the nation according to 247Sports
