Penn State added another piece to what is already shaping up to be one of James Franklin's best recruiting classes ever with the commitment of four-star receiver Anthony Ivey.
Ivey has long been a top target for the Nittany Lions in the 2022 class, and they have worked hard to make him a priority. They first offered back in September of 2019 amidst a stretch when Ivey visited Happy Valley for three games during that season. Though it's been a while since a return visit (for obvious reasons) it's clear that he has a strong connection to the staff, as well as fellow commit and Pennsylvania-native Beau Pribula who lives nearby in York.
The Ivey File
- Class: 2022
- Size: 5'11/170 lbs.
- Pos: WR
- School: Manheim Township (Lancaster, PA)
- Composite Rating: ★★★★ (.9295)
- Composite Rank: #174 Overall (#20 WR)
Though it's still pretty early in the process for 2022 prospects, Ivey already had offers from several schools, including Arizona State, West Virginia, Auburn, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech.
Ivey is an exciting prospect who still has room to grow, but Brian Dohn on 247Sports loves what he brings to the table already and projects him as a second-third round NFL Draft Pick. Here's his full scouting report:
Frame is good but does not have elite size or length. Skilled and polished receiver at young age. Big play receiver averaged more than 25 yards per catch as sophomore. High level athlete. Can make plays down the field or in key possession situations. Good route runner. Releases well off line and hard to jam. Ability to separate when ball is in air. Tracks ball well. Elusive after the catch. Good body control. Willing to catch ball in traffic. Has to add strength. Adding quickness and short-area burst will allow for slot ability. Multi-year starter at Top 10 program. Day 3 NFL draft potential.
Ivey is the second receiver to commit to Penn State in the 2022 class, joining fellow four-star and Ohio-native Kaden Saunders. Four-star tight ends Jerry Cross and Holden Staes are also already committed, giving the Nittany Lions quite the quartet of pass-catchers already. Ivey is the seventh player overall in the class, and the fourth Pennsylvanian (joining four-star offensive tackle Drew Shelton, four-star defensive end Ken Talley, three-star Pribula).
The 2022 class now stands at seven members, and moves just ahead of Ohio State's six-member class for second in the nation.
