Penn State is off to a fantastic start with its 2022 recruiting class, currently sitting at third in the nation and an average recruit rating of 0.9291 on the 247Sports Composite. One of the top targets James Franklin will attempt to add to the group is five-star inside linebacker Shawn Murphy. Murphy released his list of top-8 schools on Wednesday and included the Nittany Lions.
Along with the Lions, Murphy named Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Georgia among his top group.
Murphy has been on Penn State's radar for a long time, earning his offer all the way back in March of 2019. The Lions were actually the third program to offer the stud linebacker after the in-state Cavaliers and Hokies.
Murphy made an unofficial visit to Happy Valley in July of 2019 and January of 2020 (for Junior Day) with a home visit from Franklin and Ja'Juan Seider sandwiched between the two. He has quickly become one of the most sought-after recruits in the class, holding offers from all over the country. The Lions will surely hope to be able to bring the Virginia product in for another visit as soon as COVID allows.
There are not yet any predictions on the 247Sporst Crystal Ball for Murphy.
