Penn State's 2022 recruiting class is adding its first piece in nearly two months. Three-star offensive tackle Maleek McNeil announced his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions have been in touch for some time but this was a quick turnaround once the Lions finally offered in February of 2021. Once he received that offer, Penn State quickly became the team to beat.
The Mcneil File
- Class: 2022
- Size: 6-8/340 lbs.
- Pos: OT
- School:The Williston Northampton School (Easthampton, MA)
- Composite Rating: ★★★ (.8577)
- Composite Rank: No. 724 overall (No. 66 OT)
McNeil held other offers from UMass, Rutgers, Boston College, Duke, Pitt, and Auburn. The Eagles and Scarlet Knights appeared to be the top competition.
McNeil didn't take long to jump on his Penn State offer, but his interest was apparent well before that. His only documented visits were to Happy Valley back in October 2019 with another self-guided visit in March of 2021 after being offered. He also reportedly made visits to both BC and Rutgers. Multiple coaches have worked to maintain this relationship but for the better part of the past year, the efforts with McNeil have been spearheaded by offensive line coach Phil Trautwein.
With the commitment of McNeil, Penn State is up to nine commits in their 2022 class, bringing the class up to sixth in the nation. McNeil is the second offensive lineman to commit, joining four-star tackle prospect Drew Shelton of Downingtown, and playing his final year in Florida at IMG Academy.
