Countless games come down to special team's play and Penn State continues to sure up that part of the equation, this time landing the nation's No. 1 punter according to Kohl's Kicking - Georgia native Alex Bacchetta.
Penn State has been keeping a close eye on Bacchetta for nearly a year but didn't pull the trigger with a scholarship offer until last month, so this wasn't a very long turnaround for the talented punter once he got the go-ahead from James Franklin.
The Bacchetta File
- Class: 2022
- Size: 6-3/200 lbs.
- Pos: Punter
- School: Westminster School (Atlanta, GA)
- Composite Rating: N/A (5 Stars by Kohl's Kicking)
- Composite Rank: No. 1 P
Bacchetta's only other listed offers come from Virginia and Arkansas but he had taken visits back in 2019 to Auburn, Duke, and Clemson. Bacchetta's first trip to Happy Valley came via a self-guided tour in August of 2020. He has his official visit to Penn State scheduled for June 18 and it's the only official he's locked in thus far. Most programs are hesitant to allocate scholarships to kickers and punters which explains his relatively light offer list.
Bacchetta hails from the same high school program as former Penn State punter Blake Gillikin and one-time Penn State commit Holden Staes. He'll be the expected heir to Jordan Stout's punter role and could push for the kickoff job as well.
Bacchetta brings the Penn State 2022 class to 11 commits but as he doesn't yet have a ranking by 247 or a Composite ranking, his commitment doesn't affect the overall ranking of the class.
