Penn State is keeping the talent coming from Lackawanna. The latest Falcon to make his way from the JUCO program to Happy Valley is offensive lineman JB Nelson, originally out of Mt. Lebanon High School near Pittsburgh.

It was a quick turnaround on this recruitment with Penn State only offering Nelson in early-June. He had come to campus to camp for the staff and earned his offer on the spot. The talented lineman also held offers from Maryland, NC State, and West Virginia.

The Nelson File

  • Class: 2022
  • Size: 6-6/310 lbs.
  • Pos: OT
  • School: Lackawanna C.C. (Scranton, PA)
  • 247Sports Rating: ★★★ (88)
  • 247Sports Rank: No. 2 JUCO, No. 2 JUCO OT

As is the case with most JUCO recruitments, this was a relatively short recruitment as a whole. He got his first offer from the Terrapins back in March but couldn't begin seeing schools until the dead period ended. Nelson camped at West Virginia on the first day of June before heading north to State College to do the same in Happy Valley. The efforts here were spearheaded by offensive line coach Phil Trautwein.

While Nelson is ranked as a tackle, his future is likely on the interior at the FBS level. That position flexibility makes him an attractive prospect, however.

Nelson is commit No. 13 for Penn State's 8th ranked 2022 Class according to 247Sports. He is the second Lackawanna College Falcon to join the class, with safety Tyrece Mills already on board. It should be noted that Nelson's addition won't impact the Lions' overall ranking as he has yet to receive a composite score.
