Penn State has landed a commitment from four-star 2023 edge rusher Neeo Avery. Avery is now the first player to commit to Penn State under new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.

Avery picked up his Penn State offer back in May and made it to campus this past September to watch the Nittany Lions take down the Auburn Tigers in the Whiteout. James Franklin and Co. are very familiar with Avery's high school, as four-star true freshman Landon Tengwall played at Our Lady of Good Counsel as well.

The Avery File

  • Class: 2023
  • Size: 6'5/230
  • Pos: DE
  • School: Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, MD)
  • Composite Rating: ★★★★
  • Composite Rank: No. 14 edge (No. 116 overall)

Avery had offers from most of the bigger programs in the mid-Atlantic and also held offers from Georgia and Outback Bowl foe Arkansas.

Although he's listed as a defensive end, he could easily play tight end at the next level - as he's been very productive at both positions and has the kind of build that would allow him to play either.

Avery is commit No. 6 for Penn State in the 2023 recruiting cycle. The Nittany Lions have the top class in the Big Ten and have the third-highest rated class nationally.
